The youth are the backbone of the Nation. It is very important to uphold their spirit, unite their strength and reemphasize their confidence from time to time. In sync with the entire nation the 19th National Youth Day was celebrated at CIRC Sonapur on 12th January, 2015 honoring the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. The celebration was almost a day long affair; the event started at 10:00 am and went on till 1:00 pm. The guest of honor Md. Muslim-Uddin Barbhuyan (honorable faculty Sonapur College and KKHSOU) bestowed his humble presence to cheer the youth participating in the programme.
The programme was inaugurated by a warm welcome speech by CIRC team member Lipika Dey followed by the ceremonial lighting of lamp by CIRC Sonapur Centre Manager, Syeda Asma Kazi. The programme was carried forwarded with a significant speech by Mousumi Sarkar, a student member of CIRC Sonapur. The guest of honor Md. Muslim-Uddin Barbhuyan was felicitated with the traditional Assamese ‘gamucha’ (towel). Thereafter, the contest for the day ‘Youth Day Quiz’ was opened and hosted by Quiz Master of the day Md. Muslim-Uddin Barbhuyan with assistance from Prativa Borah. The quiz was conducted in three elaborate rounds with five (5) teams participating with three (3) members each. The quiz touched upon all round topics namely: current affairs, sports, history, geography, science, etc. Two teams were declared winner and awarded books to both the team members. As soon as the quiz was concluded all guests were offered refreshment.
Post refreshment, the programme was furthered with a cheerful, colorful and youthful rally. The participants in the rally were student members of All Assam Student Union (AASU), Karbi Student Union (KSU), Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU) and CIRC Sonapur. The rally walked through Sonapur market and the National Highway number 44, spreading positive messages of Swami Vivekananda about Peace, work, integrity and leadership. The rally was conducted with full support from Assam Police, Sonapur P.S. The programme was conducted in leadership of the CIRC Sonapur team. It turned out to be an involved affair as all the students and other youth actively participated in the programme, elevating and reassuring a social conscience towards the betterment of the fellow human beings and the society as a whole.
