‘Internet in a Box’ an innovative project initiated by Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF) with the support of Golman Sachs and Internet Society was launched and tested in a village in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The IAB project seeks to provide affordable access to connectivity to the unconnected and information-dark villages through a creatively designed portable device. IAB weighs a mere 7kgs making it portable and is equipped with solar panels for it energy needs. It has the power to connect to 200 individuals at a time across a radius of 500mt to 5km. After the launch, a demonstration and training program was conducted with the community member of Anantapur district to explain the parts and its functioning. The individuals also connected their smartphones via the IAB and enjoyed fast speed internet connectivity.
