Sonapur is a village in Dimoria tehsil in Kamrup metro of Assam state. It is seated on the river Diguru which flows into the mighty Brahmaputra near Guwahati. It is comprised of around 6000 people with several ethic groups namely Karbis, Bodos, Sonowal- Kocharis, Tea-tribe, etc. In Sonapur, farmers produce agricultural products like rice, flowers, vegetables, and orange. They work hard to produce better yield and fulfil their livelihood. But due to improper implementation of agricultural technology, they are not able to get more benefits of their hard work. This region is lacking availability and accessibility of content, products and services.
With this scenario in background, Digital Empowerment Foundation has started Community Information Resource Centre to create technical awareness among people. This centre provides information to community people, imparts basic computer education through ICT tools. Around 110 people have got information on education, health, scholarship, employment and govt-scheme free of cost.
CIRC, Sonapur is also furnishing basic needs of scanning, printing documents, photocopy and online form filling under its centre. The centre has earned revenue of amount Rs.800 through CIRC centre. To develop basic skills and make them eligible for job, different computer courses are offered.
Literacy and quality of education are the base of development. Centre has started Bachelor Preparatory Programme (BPP) in collaboration with KKHSOU University, which mainly focused the people who are not able to continue their study but wish to get degree. Under this one year programme, students can complete this and take admission to any degree programme. Till now, 168 students have enrolled in it.
Assam is the most affected by malaria in the country .To create and spread awareness among people about their health and give them some health tips, we are planning to conduct health-workshop on this topic.
