Digital Literacy not only helps individuals in capacity building, but also contributes significantly towards developing local commerce. Hailing from Muthyala Palem, a village town located in Distrct Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, Gangalla Devi was leading a life of extreme poverty. Although she worked as a tailor, she wished to explore sustainable livelihood. However, she lacked proper guidance, training and access to opportunities. But instead of giving up, she got herself enrolled in the NDLM programme which was being offered at the neighbouring CIRC. Adequate resources and mentorship that she received with each digital literacy module helped her discover new possibilities in the digital world. Today, Gangalla aspires to open her own internet broadband enabled computer center to offer digital literacy to the others in her village. Additionally, she plans to jumpstart her entrepreneurial initiative by making internet services available to the community.
