Among nine family members including three brothers and four sisters, Sadiya Khatoon is more responsible for her family’s livelihood. She used to weave lungis and gamcchas with her family members at home and could run the charkha with perfection. About a month ago when team bank-e-loom, in Saidanpur in Uttar Pradesh conducted social mobilisation among the community members, they met Sadiya Khatoon and noticed her talent when she was busy in weaving with her charkha. It was a surprise for the team how a 16 year can weave that cloth with such precision. She was asked her to give her valuable time in to learning computers, which she could within her village. From next day she joined us at baank-e-loom, a centre dedicated towards empowering weaver community of Saidanpur with digital literacy. A month has passed and today, Sadiya can paint weaving designs and patterns using digital tools on a laptop. The idea is to amplify the change by empowering each and every weaver with knowledge of digital tools.
