On the occasion of Mother’s Day last month, CIRC Sonapur (Assam) organised a three day workshop exclusively for the mothers of the community. This workshop was about basic computer education and internet access enabled by the Community Information and Resource Centre (CIRC), Sonapur, along with keeping in view the awareness and developmental roles played by the information sector at the grassroot levels. During the course of the three-day workshop, women from the locality participated with great enthusiasm and showed potential to learn new technologies.
As women were almost new to the use of computers, only basic introduction in to computers was provided during the first phase of the workshop.
The next phase emphasized on the use of electronic mail or email and how to connect with it.
On the last day of the workshop, the attendees were introduced to popular social networking sites and also browsing across the web using various search engines.
Finally, the attendees were awarded with certificates of participation. Overall, the workshop could be hailed a success and a step forward in bringing gender neutrality in accessing ICT.
